The Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology (NISLT) on Monday 14/08/2023 inducted Graduands of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara into it membership fold. NISLT by its mandate is a professional regulatory and research Agency.
In his welcome address, Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri thanked the Body for honoring the invitation of the Polytechnic, stressing that the induction exercise will further give graduands of SLT an edge in the competing labor market. Prof Ufuophu-Biri represented by the Deputy Rector, Dr. Jacob Ighere congratulated the inducted members of NISLT enjoining them to henceforth see themselves as a worthy ambassadors of the Polytechnic.
The DG/Registrar of NISLT, Mr. Yemi H. Gbadegesin in a keynote address to participants stated that the exercise is in line with the mandate of the institute and in fulfilment of the SLT curriculum which state that: "graduate of the program are inducted into NISLT upon completion of mandatory professional examination and become licensed in the fields of Science Laboratory Technology".
He went further to state that NISLT was established in 2003 by Act 12 of the National Assembly and was made a parastaral under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology now Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
The DG used the occasion to inform participants that the legal battle between members of NISLT and MLSCN was on Monday 19th June, 2023 laid to rest where a judge ruled, that Laboratory practice is not exclusively for MLSCN. " On this note, Science Laboratory Technology students/graduates can practice and own Laboratory without intimidation from any other Professional bodies but endeavor to do the needful as required by law".
Mr. Gbadegesin applauded thr Management of the Polytechnic, stating: " we are for the first time professionally registering graduates of SLT into our noble profession where practicing license will be issued to prospective inductees renewable yearly ".
Induction lecture, titled: FOSTERING ENTREPRENEURSHIP AMONG NIGERIAN SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY GRADUATES, BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN RESEARCH, BUSINESS AND THE LABOR MARKET was delivered Emmanuel Ola Oshomoh, an Associate Professor from the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State.
Ag. HOD, SLT, Mr. Kome Akpobire profusely thanked the Rector, Prof Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri for making the ceremony a reality. He reminded the inducted members of NISLT that they can now be described as one with the knowledge, skills, and required expertise needed to get and/or create relevant jobs.
High point of the ceremony was the administration of induction oath by the NISLT DG.
