Residents of Sapele Local Government Area and its environs have appealed to the Delta State Government to intervene in the rehabilitation of the Amukpe Round About Road, which has been in a deplorable state for some time now.
The road, a major link between Sapele and other neighboring communities and towns has become a nightmare for commuters, motorists, and business owners in the area.
The Amukpe Roundabout Road, has been plagued by potholes, erosion, and flooding, making it difficult for vehicles to ply the route. The road's poor condition has led to increased travel time, damage to vehicles.
Speaking to newsmen, a trader in the area who gave her name as Mrs Justina Okoro said "We are suffering greatly due to the bad state of this Road. Our goods are often damaged during transportation, and we spend more on fuel and vehicle maintenance. We understand that it is a Federal road, but we are appealing to the Delta state Government for Intervention, we want the Delta State Government to come to our aid and fix the road."
Commuters and motorists are also feeling the brunt of the road's poor condition. "I spend over two hours daily commuting on this road," said Mr. John Efe, a civil servant. "It's affecting my productivity and overall well-being. We are appealing to the Delta State Government to intervene and act fast to repair the road."
Speaking to newsmen in a similar vein, a community leader who gave his name as Mr. Sunday Akpofure said: "We are tired of waiting for the Federal Government to come and repair this road, We are strongly appealing to the state government as a matter of urgency to take immediate action and fix the road. We are willing to work with the government to ensure the road is repaired."
As the residents of Sapele continue to suffer due to the bad state of the Amukpe Roundabout Road, they can only hope that the State or Federal Government will come to their aid and rehabilitate the road as soon as possible. Until then, they will continue to endure the hardships and losses caused by the deplorable state of the road.
