As the nation prepares for a nationwide protest on August 1st, Comrade Kingsley Abebe, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria's Sapele Local Government Chapter, has urged Sapele youths to shun the protest and focus on demanding accountability from leaders and institutions.
Speaking at a strategic meeting at the Sapele Council Secretariat, Abebe emphasized that protests often yield little tangible results and can lead to chaos and destruction. He advocated for a more constructive approach to bring about lasting change.
"Protest is not the solution to our problems," Abebe said. "We need accountability. We must hold our leaders accountable for the resources entrusted to them and demand answers."
Abebe acknowledged the frustrations that lead to protests but cautioned that joining the August 1st protest would not address the underlying issues. He urged the youths to engage their leaders and demand accountability.
"I understand that times are hard, but protest is not part of the solution," Abebe said. "We need to set up a system to ask our leaders questions about the resources entrusted to them. If youths decide to protest on August 1st, they should be aware that the protest can be hijacked by hoodlums, leading to unintended consequences. I appeal to them to adopt a more constructive approach.
