The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Sapele Chapter, Comrade Kingsley Abebe, has lauded the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Bright Abeke, for his unwavering commitment to environmental sanitation in the locality.

Speaking with newsmen in Sapele, Abebe praised Hon. Abeke for consistently aligning the council’s sanitation efforts with the state government’s MORE Agenda, spearheaded by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. He said the monthly environmental exercise, which has now become a fixture in Sapele’s civic life, has led to improved hygiene and enhanced public awareness about cleanliness.

“What we are witnessing in Sapele today is a testament to purposeful leadership,” Abebe said. “Hon. Bright Abeke has institutionalised the culture of cleanliness and discipline across the local government. The results are evident in the streets, markets, and public spaces. It’s no longer just a policy—it has become a way of life.”

He noted that the council chairman’s proactive approach has helped inculcate a new mindset among residents, especially the youth, towards environmental consciousness and civic responsibility.

“The youth council is proud to associate with the impactful work being done by Hon. Abeke,” he added. “He has shown that leadership is about action, not just words. His administration has turned sanitation into a people-driven movement.”

Abebe further commended the Delta State Government for it sanitation policy, describing it as a citizen-focused initiative aimed at promoting public health and fostering community development.

He observed that the synergy between the state and local governments has made the exercise more effective and participatory. According to him, the increased involvement of market women, transport workers, and volunteers in cleanup efforts signals a shift in attitude toward a cleaner environment.

“Gone are the days when people waited for the government to do it all,” he said. “We are seeing more residents taking initiative. From clearing gutters to managing waste disposal properly, there’s a renewed sense of environmental responsibility.”

The NYCN chairman also highlighted the noticeable reduction in indiscriminate dumping of refuse across major areas in Sapele, attributing the development to sustained sensitization and strict enforcement measures.

He urged residents not to relent in their support for the council’s efforts, stressing that maintaining a clean and healthy environment is crucial for public well-being and the overall development of the community.

“As youths, we have a role to play in safeguarding our future. Cleanliness is not just about aesthetics; it is about health, discipline, and progress,” he said.

Abebe concluded by encouraging other local governments to emulate the Sapele model, stressing that collective responsibility remains key to achieving lasting environmental change.
